The State Bank of India and GE Capital jointly launched the SBI Card in 1998. SBI Card, incorporated as SBI Cards and Payment Services Private Limited (SBICPSL), has its headquarters in Gurgaon, Haryana. In December 2017, State Bank of India and The Carlyle Group bought GE Capital share in SBI Card. In August 2019, the company changed its official name to SBI Cards and Payment Services Limited. SBI Card became the first pure-play credit card business to debut on Indian stock exchanges in March 2020.
